I'd like to blame this tedium on 2005 being the year I quit competitive MtG but I suspect that the World of Wartcraft has the lion's share of the blame

If players still aren't happy with their cards, they can continue to mulligan, but get to keep one fewer card each time

Note that this is a destruction effect not a sacrifice one, so you could keep it around with Heroic Intervention or Tamiyo's Safekeeping and give it indestructible for the turn to keep on drawing those cards

There are a lot of essential Magic cards that cost 1 mana, and Mental Missteps option to be cast without any mana means the blue player will be countering spells before theyve even taken their first turn
